Horsebox Insurance and Horse Trailer Insurance Made Easy
It’s your horsebox and whether you use it for leisure or business you are going to need to get it covered. If it’s a horsebox you are going to need insurance to be able to use it on the road. If you have a horse trailer then you may want to cover it against being stolen, a growing problem in the countryside. The horsebox and horse trailer insurance partners offer a helpful, straight to the point service that can help you get most suitable insurance policy without the hard sell.
The comparison service can make searching for your horsebox or trailer insurance policy a whole lot easier so you can instead concentrate on training or enjoying your time with your horse. They will do all the leg work for you, helping you to find you the right price and cover.
If you are an equine business you may also need public liability insurance for your horsebox or trailer.
You can still build a no claims bonus with your policy. Horsebox insurance companies will often offer cheaper polices to safer drivers with a clean driving history.
As with all car insurance and horsebox insurance policies, when you apply for a quote will be asked if you’ve made any motoring insurance claims, if you have any driving convictions, if you have criminal record and if you have any medical conditions. Giving false answers may mean you are not insured so always answer truthfully.
Towing and Driving Laws
A useful point to note are the UK rules for towing and driving.
If you passed your test after 1st January 1997 you can:
- Drive a car or van up to 3,500kg (transit/ luton size) towing a trailer of up to 750kg
- Tow a trailer over 750kg if the combined MAM (MAM is the limit on how much the vehicle can weigh when loaded) is no more than 3,500kg
- If you want to drive heavier weights and combinations then further tests will be required.
If you passed your test before 1st January 1997:
- You are usually allowed to drive a vehicle and trailer combination up to 8,250kg MAM (check the back of your driving licence for what vehicles are you are allowed to drive) without any additional test.
As with any insurance product, always read the policy wording carefully before you buy to make sure it suits your needs and so that you know exactly is and isn’t covered and what you’d have to do in the event that you did need to make a claim under that policy.
